Will Be There

This one I wrote for a childhood friend...seems we kept coming in and out of each others lives.  We met at age 14, worked in the same building at age 18, were friends again off and on until age 26 we found ourselves pregnant at the same and unemployed.  Very pregnant we drove cars in an auction...lots of fun and lots of memories. Found ourselves divorced at the same time and remarried at the same time.  Each moved away numerous times and lost touch but somehow we always managed to find each other...the last time had been many years apart and we ended up sitting on the back of 2 different boats on a lake side by side...God does work in mysterious ways.  Maybe you have a friend or know someone this reminds you of in your life...Enjoy

Young girls we were but thought we were not
Lipstick and boys were all in our thoughts
Giggles and being silly kept us together then
Not worrying about futures, whys or whens

Parted ways, few years went on by
Young adults learning the whens and whys
Workplace brought us together once again
Another segment of our lives will begin

Parted ways again for only a few years
Then life came at us with new fears
Hearing and seeing life's whens and whys
Watching carefully with our adult eyes

With child in tow and one on the way
We greeted each other with a new day
We shared new dreams, even drove cars
Little did we know about our hidden scars

As children grew and our lives fell apart
We divorced and remarried, tried a new start
As each failed attempt for happiness we found
The other was close by supporting our sound

Time moved on and we moved in and out
Of each others lives, but with very little doubt
The other would be there when the time came
To help each other with their claim to be "sane"

Now gray has appeared and wrinkles are there
Our eyes still twinkle between our blank stares
We still giggle and act silly once in a while
Knowing together we are able to still smile

Life does have its ups and downs so they say
Everyone has them, almost every day
But what most people lack is someone who cares
For us, we know, each will always be there.
